Show Me The (College) Money!
Did you know that students can get scholarships long before their senior year in high school? Yep, there are college scholarships that students can apply for as early as 9th grade.
While there are gazillions of different ones out there, most scholarships are not in the tens of thousands of dollars. Instead, there are lots that award $200, or $500, or $1,000. That may seem a pittance compared to present-day tuition, but the last time we looked, adding together a bunch of smaller numbers led to a bigger number.
So here’s the strategy: Start early and go wide. Beginning this summer, high school freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors should make a habit of applying for at least one appropriate scholarship every week. Pairing up with a friend in this endeavor can make the research process more efficient and keep both parties more motivated.
